[Admin Note: The translator seems to NOT like figuratives. Tough luck being a moonspeak song translator then.]
* Yeah, sometimes the case is NOT clear in
Japanese. This is one of those occasions,
but since he was talking about his memories,
I assume it's meant to be from X's perspective.
Also, anyone who speaks Moonspeak will tell you
that when there's random English thrown into a
Jappish song, it's a great way for a translator
to get a migraine, so I worked it in as best I
could...
**A lot of songs like to do this one, and it's
always kind of annoying to translate. The word
they SAY is "memorii" or the transliteration of
the English "memory", but the WRITTEN word is
"kiroku", which is more like a written record.
This is also the Japanese way of saying memory
when talking about a computer's harddrive and
whatnot, so it works and it's not a pain this
time simply because the words are the same in
English with no real difference.
***Here, the word they SAY is "kaze", or just
simply "wind", but what's WRITTEN is "hayate",
or a fierce wind. Not too hard here, at least.
Also, the word SAID, once again, is "kotae" or
"answer", while the WRITTEN word, again, is
"shimei", lit. "mission". This more ties into
the character X finding meaning in the works he
does, but doesn't really lend itself to
translation other than to provide subtext to
the song that you wouldn't be able to find
without reading the lyrics in the original
language and also as they were originally written.
#More word stuff. SAID: "Hagane", or "steel".
WRITTEN: "Koutetsu". Again, this is just
another way of saying "steel". Nothing really
big (at least, that I know of), in the different
connotations between the words. Another:
SAID: "Inochi" or "life". WRITTEN: "seimei".
This COULD have a different connotation. Seimei
is life as an existence, whereas "inochi" is life
as in the vital force, so there could be a
difference, but I'm not sure.
## MORE written/said stuff. Also, these two
lines are reversed in order in my translation
to make more sense. Also also, the kanji they
used to write "sasu" or "to stab" is actually
the kanji for "sword". I've never seen it used
instead of the usual kanji for "sasu", but it
could be either poetic or another, unusual way
of writing it, I'm not sure. Anyway, what is
WRITTEN is "nakama" or friend/ally, and what's
SAID is "tomo", simply "friend". This could be
used to denote that he knows maybe that Zero is
still on his side, even if he is fighting him at
the moment? I don't know, translators have got
to be careful not to color themselves into a
translation any more than they absolutely have to.
### Last bit of written stuff vs. said stuff.
What's said is "omoi", or "feelings", but what's
written is "houkou", or "roar". I left this as
a "/" because really either would be a good way
to end the song, and I'm not sure what the
original author(s) would prefer.
